Welcome to Calabash Creamery

Calabash North Carolina is located 20 Miles North of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and 40 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina. The small, quaint, seaside town of Calabash has long been noted as the “Seafood Capital”, while the surrounding towns provide the lure of the ocean and challenging golf courses. Combine with this, add a slower paced lifestyle and wonderful year-round weather, - what a great location.

Sensing the potential in this area, Greg and Kristi Hansen decided to put their former professions to “pasture” and venture in a new direction, hence the Creamery began. Construction started in March 2003, and Greg with Kristi enrolled in “Carpigiani Ice Cream Collage”.

The Creamery resembles a gracious southern home with seating inside, additional seating is offered on the covered, wrap-around porch, lined with rocking chairs outside. - TOUR THE CREAMERY - The logo was created when a life sized cow was planted under the shade of a large live-oak tree in the center of the parking lot. After opening on July, 22 2003, a name the cow contest ensued and “Scoop” was officially named. A year later “Scoop” was joined by a calf. Following another contest, “Dip” completes the small farm scene and provides a popular photo spot.

The Mascots Word.

Greg and Kristi support their community by donating to local charities, fund raisers, the American Red Cross Blood Drive with “Give a Pint – Get a Pint” (ice cream), First-Aid, Fire Department and Police. In addition they host scout troops and school class trips where children learn the history of ice cream, assist in making ice cream which they then devour. During the winter months, numerous birthday celebrations occur at the Creamery.

Last, but far from least, Calabash Gourmet Ice Cream is made daily on premises. The twenty-four flavors consist of the finest, freshest ingredients and contains 16% butter-fat. In addition, “no-sugar added” is offered along with soft-serve ice cream, hand packed pints and quarts, ice cream cakes, pies and cookie sandwiches. Varied flavors rotate, with a featured flavor every month. Locally grown ingredients are always incorporated, i.e. strawberries, cantaloupe, peaches, sweet potatoes (sweet potato soufflé), apples, etc. Beginning in August 2006, the Calabash Creamery is introducing their mobile “Cool Cart”, whereby their home made ice cream will be available for private parties, golf outings, sporting events, etc.

Greg and Kristi’s goal is to provide a superior product, using the very best ingredients in a friendly atmosphere.
